At the Tom Waits show in Asheville this past summer, one of his funnier, gravelly asides about life on the road was "You know, it's getting harder and harder to find a bad cup of coffee."
Although I am generally annoyed by semantic debates, I have made a choice about how I order coffee: Regardless of where I am, I will order a small, medium, or a large coffee, not a grande, or venti or any other Italian, French, or Spanish appellation. While I may--often to my own dismay--sway to and fro in the cultural breeze along with the rest of the grasses, this is one matter on which I stand firm. Now let me get back to updating my MySpace page before the free hour of wireless in this cafe runs out.
